Count the spaces. Make room for someone to leave their vehicle. Then follow their route to the door. This planner brings those three questions together.
These shortfalls overlap. A new or upgraded van space can contribute to both; do not add the two numbers. Altering a lot can change its total capacity, so recalculate the final design.

Find the route
Locate the accessible entrance first. Follow the route from the access aisle, including crossings and changes in level. Accessible parking is located on the shortest accessible route and dispersed where it serves multiple accessible entrances.
Check the full aisle is clear, marked and as long as its bay. Measure between marking centre lines, subject to the outer-edge exception. Bay and aisle surfaces share a level, with slopes no steeper than 1:48 in any direction. Curb ramps must not consume this space.
Check 98 in minimum headroom along the van’s entrance route, bay, aisle and exit route. Verify signs remain visible with a parked vehicle, and include “van accessible” where required. For angled van bays, the aisle belongs on the passenger side.
Surface firmness and slip resistance; signs and mounting; route width and cross slope; drainage; overhanging vehicles; obstructions; shared aisles; lighting and maintenance. The diagram illustrates one perpendicular bay and one aisle. It does not determine bay length, traffic lanes, turning radii or whole-lot capacity.
Use the right reference for the project
This original tool applies the general ADA 2010 count table to one parking facility. It does not decide whether ADA applies or certify a facility. Local planning and building requirements remain separate, including projects outside the United States.
General parking only
Residential facilities, hospital outpatient patient/visitor parking, rehabilitation and outpatient physical therapy parking have different scoping. Exempt vehicle uses, loading zones, EV charging and on-street parking need their own assessment.
Required accessible and van counts; differences from your reported counts; and the widths of three reference bay arrangements. A zero shortfall means the entered numbers meet this count calculation. Every physical detail still needs review.
